Permission to Be a Little Ridiculous

—  ✦  —

Adulthood comes with plenty of serious things.

Bills.
Appointments.
Deadlines.
Laundry.
Emails that somehow multiply while you sleep.

So every now and then, I think we deserve permission to be just a little ridiculous.

Stand in line at 4:35 a.m. for the perfect scarecrow spot.

Name the golf cart Bubbles.

Order the dessert.

Wear the sparkly shoes.

Take the back road home just to catch a glimpse of the horses in the fields.

Use the fancy glasses on a Tuesday.

Stop for the chai.

Dance in the kitchen.

Buy yourself the flowers — or, if you’re lucky enough to have someone who already knows you love them, let them keep doing that. 🤍

None of these things are necessary.

That may be exactly the point.

Somewhere along the way, adulthood can start feeling like everything needs a reason. A purpose. A plan. A return on investment.

But joy doesn’t always need to be practical.

Sometimes the smallest, silliest choices are the ones that make an ordinary day feel a little more like your own.

So take the scenic route.

Wear the shoes.

Order the dessert.

Name the golf cart.

Adulthood comes with enough responsibility. We don’t need to make joy earn its place too.

Go ahead.
Be a little ridiculous.
Deliberately.

Design a life you love ~ deliberately.
