Do Something That Scares You

A Deliberate Desires reflection on fear, laughter, and one very wet Monday

—  ✦  —

Monday looked a little different than usual.

Instead of a day at my desk, our company staycation took us to the Ocoee River in Tennessee for a day of white-water rafting with Cherokee Rafting — something I had never done before and, quite frankly, had never been particularly certain I needed to do. 😂

Was I scared?

Yes.

Did I do it anyway?

Also yes.

And somewhere between the first enormous splash and rapids with delightfully reassuring names like Broken Nose, Table Saw, and Hell’s Hole, fear started giving way to pure fun.

There were Class III and IV rapids, plenty of water in the face, lots of paddling, even more laughing — and those wonderfully ridiculous moments when you realize there is absolutely no graceful way to look while being tossed down a roaring river.

And I loved it.

A huge shout-out to Cherokee Rafting, and especially to our guide, Josh, who was absolutely awesome. Having someone confident, knowledgeable, and fun leading the way made this first-time adventure one I’ll always remember.

By the time we reached the end, I was soaked, exhilarated, and rather pleased with myself.

Would I have ever thought white-water rafting belonged on my bucket list?

Nope.

But apparently it did.

And now I get to cross it off. ✔️

Sometimes living deliberately doesn’t mean carefully planning every adventure.

Sometimes it simply means saying yes before fear has enough time to talk you out of it.

Do something that scares you.
You might just have an absolute blast. 💦

Design a life you love ~ deliberately.
