Softened, Not Shattered: You Are Sea Glass

What if you’re not broken… but becoming someone you were always meant to be?

What if the pieces of your life that felt sharp and jagged were never meant to stay that way?

We live in a world that is quick to label hardship as damage. Pain as something to fix. Struggle as something to hide. But what if the very things you’ve been through are not evidence that something is wrong with you… but proof that something meaningful is happening within you?

I came across the idea of sea glass recently, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I have always loved walking along beaches looking for sea glass and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it wasn’t just a beautiful object—it was a beautiful metaphor for life.

Sea glass doesn’t start beautiful.

It starts as something broken. Discarded. Sharp-edged and overlooked.

But then the tides begin their quiet work.

Wave after wave, day after day, the water doesn’t destroy the glass—it refines it. It softens the edges. It smooths what was once jagged. It transforms it into something rare… something people search for.

And I couldn’t help but wonder…

What if that’s what life is doing to us?

Because the truth is, there are seasons that feel like they might shatter you.

Loss. Disappointment. Unexpected turns. Moments that don’t go the way you planned—or hoped—or prayed.

Those moments can leave you questioning everything.

But what if they’re not the end of your story?

What if they’re the process?

What you’ve been through has not made you less.

It has shaped you.

It has softened the parts of you that needed compassion.

It has strengthened the parts of you that needed resilience.

It has given you depth, perspective, and a quiet kind of strength that can only come from living through something hard—and choosing to keep going anyway.

Sea glass is not valuable in spite of what it’s been through.

It’s valuable because of it.

And so are you.

Even the roughest waters can create something beautiful.

So if you find yourself in a season that feels heavy, uncertain, or overwhelming…

Don’t rush it.

Don’t label yourself as broken.

The tide is still working.

And what it’s creating is something extraordinary.

One day, you’ll look back and realize the waves you feared were quietly shaping the person you were becoming.

Design a life you love — deliberately.
